TUST People
Torquay United Supporters' Trust is an Independent Provident Society which is run by a board. The board have a mandate from their members to make decisions on their behalf in regard to initialising projects, planning, identifying the necessary skills base and raising the relevant funding. They use the money generated by membership fees and that generated by fundraising and other sources to finance the projects they embark upon.
They always strive to ensure that the members of the trust are kept as fully informed as possible, given the obvious limitations. All board members are volunteers and give their time freely in order to act on behalf of the members for the good of the supporters and Torquay United AFC. If you have any questions or enquiries, then please feel free to contact any of our board members using the contact details provided. Your current board members are:
Hayden Jones
Chairman
Hayden is a born-and-bred Torquinian who runs his own business dealing with publishing, copy writing, sub-editing and design. He has worked in publishing via magazines and newspapers for the past 20-years and brings this experience to bear at TUST.
After first coming to Plainmoor as a seven-year-old in 1974, it wasn't until the mid-80s that he began to attend on a regular basis, but he has rarely missed a game since. He is possibly best known by Torquay United supporters for his production of the currently-in-mothballs fanzine, 'Bamber's Right Foot'. Hayden still maintains an irreverent sense of humour which can often bring a bit of light relief during the darker moments of the trust. Hayden took over the role as chairman of TUST after former chairman, Chris Fleet, stepped down in October 2007, and he is passionate about continuing the excellent work that the trust has done so far. Hayden wants to see the trust grow into an effective organisation that will have a direct impact on the club, the supporters and the wider community of Torbay and South Devon

John Mowl
Vice-Chairman
John Mowl is a retired Chartered Engineer now living in Torquay, whose working life was spent in the gas industry, principally in engineering.
Before becoming a Torquay supporter, John was involved in non-league football for many years, which included him being chairman of Moor Green Football Club - now Solihull Moors - for seven years. John has already done a considerable amount of work on the trust's proposed project to improve the provision for disabled supporters at Plainmoor, and it was he who researched the subject extensively and produced the report which the trust presented to the club. John’s aims for Torquay United Supporters’ Trust is to be involved in a partnership between the club, its supporters and the community, implementing such initiatives as improvements to the facilities for our disabled supporters and football community schemes so as the supporters' trust can be seen to make a difference.

Jamie Holmes
Secretary
Jamie is by profession psychiatric nurse who specialises in working with individuals with drug and alcohol problems. He is currently employed as deputy manager and clinical lead within the local NHS prescribing team.
Jamie says has always insisted that he would not bring manual skills to the TUST board but what he does bring in abundance is enthusiasm, ideas and lots of experience in problem solving. In fact, to a large degree, Jamie was head-hunted for service on the TUST board as chairman Hayden Jones hounded him until he finally conceded and came on board. Importantly Jamie has many years of being actively involved in boards and he was governor of a local primary school, and he currently sits on a national specialist prescribing forum. He also has no problem with getting his hands dirty. He even jointly arranges a small music festival each year which takes a bit of organising. Jamie has watched Torquay United since he was a kid, so 28-years plus of standing mostly on the terraces has given him a good insight into all things TUFC. Jamie now attends Plainmoor with his son and as such is prepared to subject him to the years of underacheivement and abject misery.

Steve Vincent
Treasurer
Steve was born in London and grew up in Brixham. He owns his own accountancy practice and is well known in the business community. He started going to TUFC games in 1972 and was encouraged to watch football by his grandfather and uncles. He was awestruck by the enormity of his first match and fell in love with the game instantly.
He played for Totnes FC for two seasons until he was in his late teens. His favourite aspect of watching TUFC is the passion of the people which makes for a great atmosphere. He loves winning and has relished Torquay's recent trips to Wembley. He has recently taken over as Treasurer of TUST and sees the Trusts role as multi-layered designed to unite passionate fans and make a difference to the club. He hopes to do this by supporting the board and proposing good solid ideas from the fans and to continue to increase charitable work. He hopes the trust will be fundamental in growing the club at a grass roots level for the future generation and seeing the Junior Gulls go from strength to strength.

Martin Wildman
Disabled Liaison Officer
Martin has been a staunch Torquay United supporter since 1991 and had been a season ticket holder for the past few years.
He is a tetraplegic, wheelchair user who is also a published port and author. His book "All Aboard The Numpty Bus" was published back in 2003 and was critically acclaimed, and he is still actively writing. Martin joined the trust board in 2008 and he is a firm believer in disability rights and access for all. He was involved in the development of the new facilities for the disabled at Torquay United and on the trust board he provides a unique perspective of a disabled person and end user. Martin believes that supporters trust are vitally important in today’s footballing climate because they give a voice to supporters which is independent to football clubs.

Phil Smith
Currently without portfolio
A Plymouthian born in the middle of the last century, Phil was recruited as a junior scientist by an Atomic Energy Authority (later MoD) establishment at Reading in 1972. He gained an OU degree in Physics some 22-years later and progressed to the roll of Scientific Project Manager, before he happily accepted voluntary redundancy and returned to Devon in 2000. While living away from Devon, he gave committed support to the ‘Royals’ for 15 years and finally exchanged a seat at the Madejski Stadium for a Plainmoor season ticket - which has included an unforgettable roller-coaster ride as a Gulls fan.
Concerned with major adverse issues at TUFC, Phil believed that TUST had the potential and an ability to "make a significant difference" to both the club and community. Hence with no volunteer for the treasurer's post he took up the challenge - initially for the short term. Phil has enjoyed being an active member and participated in many of initiatives to date, which has included cheerfully taking a variety of photos for the TUST website, magazine as well as posterity.

Vanessa Fennis
Co-opted without portfolio
Vanessa was born in Torquay and after having moved away for seven years, she returned back to Torquay with her husband and family.
Having been a hands-on mum she now has returned to work and is employed with a language school in Torquay. She was formerly chairperson of one of the largest parent teacher associations in Torquay for eight years and she raised over £150,000 during this period. Both her husband and son are season ticket holders and are avid supporters of Torquay United. As her son is a member of the Junior Gulls, Vanessa decided to get involved herself with the club. She hopes her marketing skills and numerous local contacts will be of benefit to the TUST and hopes that the Junior Gulls continues to grow and thrive.

Ross Warner
Co-opted without portfolio
Ross was born and bred in Torquay and has followed Torquay United for most of his life having been taken to watch the Gulls by his dad when he was four-years-old. He has always watched matches from the Pop Side.
Ross is currently one of the senior stewards on match days, who after some years of bad feeling, are now trying to improve the levels of stewarding at Plainmoor which includes employing local stewards and saving the club money. The idea is that by using local stewards a rapport can be built with the fans while improving safety. Ross was interested in joining the trust board as he feels that a link between the fans and the stewards is important and he wishes to help make the trust grow and grow and encourage more supporters to join. Ross believes that the good work which the trust undertakes on behalf of the supporters and the club is evident, and he would like to be part of that.
