Another fine 'away-day' for Torquay United. Michael Poke denied Grimsby Town a goal and Chris Zebroski had two chances late in the first half.
On 53 minutes, Olly Lancashire pulled down Elliot Benyon in the area – Nicky Wroe's penalty hit the target. On 62 minutes, Mustapha Carayol's low, left wing cross was cleverly diverted into the net at the near post by Elliot Benyon.
Three minutes later and Guy Branston caught Akpa Akpro and received his second yellow card of the afternoon but ten men Torquay remained in control.
Carayol went on a good run on 71 minutes to fire home United's third goal. Akpa Akpro missed a 'sitter' and Torquay's League status was assured to the delight of 290 away fans at Blundell Park.
